OPERA FESTIVAL SI RICONFERMA LA CAMERA MAGMATICA DELL’UNDERGROUND SICILIANO
Il 2023 segna la terza edizione per Opera Festival che quest’anno dopo i capitoli Genesi e Luce, aggiunge un nuovo tassello alla storia del festival con Virgo.
Virgo è il concept della terza edizione che sarà dedicata al ruolo generativo che la costellazione della Vergine ricopre nell'astrologia e nel mito. Ed è proprio quando la costellazione della Vergine accompagnerà la stagione del raccolto e della vendemmia che Opera Festival avrà luogo e prenderà forma, dal 23 al 27 Agosto a Milo, che sull'Etna rappresenta uno dei quadranti più interessanti per la produzione del rinomato vino.
Perché sì ecco, oltre a cinque giorni di musica, suoni e performance tra albe musicali in antiche vigne, concerti nel bosco ai piedi di un albero secolare e experience in magiche venues vulcaniche quello che veramente rende Opera un boutique festival è che il vero ‘headliner’ è l’Etna, che tutto veglia dai suoi 3357 metri di altezza.
Lei, che ha affascinato Verga e stregato Battiato, farà da palcoscenico ad artisti italiani e internazionali che si susseguiranno in magiche venues sospese tra mare e terra.
Difatti, le suggestive venue stupiscono per la loro bellezza e celebrano la musica e le arti attraverso la sperimentazione, con l'obiettivo di promuovere e valorizzare un territorio vulcanico unico al mondo.
Opera Festival vuole immaginare la Milo del Futuro e accendere la luce su questo piccolo borgo ai piedi dell’Etna per dare un nuovo punto di vista ai luoghi, gli spazi e la loro comprensione attraverso la musica e l’arte.
Ridare la vita ad un luogo attraverso le attività che in esso l’Associazione Musiculture porta avanti nel piccolo borgo significa ritornare all’essenza della materia e degli elementi naturali che il territorio ripropone nella sua potenza. Dare nuova luce assume inevitabilmente un senso di speranza profonda per i giovani che vivono il senso di marginalità e di impotenza di fronte ai fenomeni socio-economici che inevitabilmente accompagnano luoghi isolati, dispersione ed esodo giovanile.
Potremmo definire Opera un festival contaminato, attivo e proattivo su diversi fronti e che di certo cerca di prendere le distanze da un sistema piramidale per portare tutto ad una dimensione più umana e attenta.
Il festival mira a creare un'identità che possa dialogare con diverse proposte artistiche. Le line up delle edizioni precedenti hanno già raccontato molto di quello che vuole essere un dialogo aperto e libero tra i generi. Un dialogo costruito in due edizioni e pienamente confermatosi nella terza, dove troviamo artisti come Jane Fitz, Marcellus Pittman, DMX Krew (Live), Guy Contact, Mykki Blanco e tanti altri tra cui Erika de Casier, James Holden, Mainline Magic Orchestra, Marie Davidson, Sansibar, Sapphire Slows e Tullio De Piscopo.
Una parte della lineup di questa edizione, sarà a cura di Mykki Blanco, artista e musicista internazionale che curerà un'intera giornata di programmazione al teatro all'aperto di Milo e ospiterà diversi concerti di artisti nazionali e internazionali, tra quelli già annunciati le performance di Evanora Unlimited e Thoom.
Oggi più che mai è importante che la musica sappia aderire ad un discorso più ampio in grado di comprendere la valorizzazione del territorio scelto per ospitare scambi di energie temporali in spazi unici e autentici. Opera in questo senso, celebra la forza della natura vulcanica in un territorio unico e sorprendente, dall’energia straordinaria che mantiene il suo fascino antico.
Nel progetto Anthropocene realizzato in collaborazione con Mara Russo, Opera Festival va ancora più a fondo nella salvaguardia del territorio, portando a galla ‘il lato oscuro’ dell’Etna - o meglio chiamarlo ‘il lato umano’ dell’Etna -.
Il titolo infatti, fa riferimento all’era Antropocene, che risale all'inizio dell'impatto umano significativo sulla Terra. Attraverso il progetto fotografico realizzato con i Mykki Blanco, viene denunciato come il vulcano, comunemente fotografato da turisti e artisti attraverso un’immagine statica e da cartolina, non sempre sia la realtà delle cose.
La location degli scatti è infatti una discarica abusiva sul territorio del Parco dell’Etna. Questa possibile rappresentazione, aldilà del relativo valore di denuncia, rappresenta un’occasione per raccontare l’alterità di un luogo, che dovremmo preservare.
La dimensione performativa queer dei Mykki Blanci è stata fondamentale per mappare questo posto abbandonato, per restituire dignità ad un luogo naturale, che nonostante l’intervento
dell’uomo, ha inglobato tutti gli elementi inquinanti, conservando una bellezza
razionalmente inspiegabile
Noi abbiamo intercettato il segnale infrasonico che Opera ha deciso di lanciare 3 anni fa, riuscendo perfettamente a tradurlo in un'esperienza immersiva e contemporanea.

OPERA FESTIVAL RECONFIRMS ITSELF AS THE MAGMATIC CHAMBER OF THE SICILIAN UNDERGROUND
2023 marks the third edition for Opera Festival, which this year, after the Genesis and Luce chapters, adds a new piece to the festival's history with Virgo.
Virgo is the concept of the third edition that will be dedicated to the generative role that the constellation Virgo plays in astrology and myth. And it is precisely when the Virgo constellation accompanies the harvest and grape harvest season that Opera Festival will take place and take shape, from 23 to 27 August in Milo, which on Etna represents one of the most interesting quadrants for the production of the renowned wine.
Because yes, in addition to five days of music, sounds and performances among musical dawns in ancient vineyards, concerts in the woods at the foot of a centuries-old tree, and experiences in magical volcanic venues, what really makes Opera a boutique festival is that the real 'headliner' is Etna, which watches over everything from its 3357 metres of height.
She, who fascinated Verga and bewitched Battiato, will be the stage for Italian and international artists who will perform in magical venues suspended between sea and land.
In fact, the striking venues amaze with their beauty and celebrate music and the arts through experimentation, with the aim of promoting and enhancing a unique volcanic territory.
Opera Festival wants to imagine the Milo of the Future and turn the light on this small village at the foot of Mount Etna to give a new point of view to places, spaces and their understanding through music and art.
Bringing a place back to life through the activities that the Musiculture Association carries out in this small hamlet means returning to the essence of matter and the natural elements that the territory reproposes in its power. Giving new light inevitably takes on a sense of profound hope for young people who experience a sense of marginality and powerlessness in the face of the socio-economic phenomena that inevitably accompany isolated places, dispersion and youth exodus.
We could define Opera as a contaminated festival, active and proactive on several fronts and certainly trying to distance itself from a pyramid system to bring everything to a more human and attentive dimension.
The festival aims to create an identity that can dialogue with different artistic proposals. The line-ups of previous editions have already told a lot about what is intended to be an open and free dialogue between genres. A dialogue built over two editions and fully confirmed in the third, where we find artists such as Jane Fitz, Marcellus Pittman, DMX Krew (Live), Guy Contact, Mykki Blanco and many others including Erika de Casier, James Holden, Mainline Magic Orchestra, Marie Davidson, Sansibar, Sapphire Slows and Tullio De Piscopo.
Part of this edition's lineup will be curated by Mykki Blanco, an international artist and musician who will curate a full day of programming at Milo's open-air theatre and host several concerts by national and international artists, among those already announced are performances by Evanora Unlimited and Thoom.
Today, more than ever, it is important for music to be able to adhere to a broader discourse capable of encompassing the enhancement of the territory chosen to host exchanges of temporal energies in unique and authentic spaces. Opera in this sense, celebrates the power of volcanic nature in a unique and surprising territory with extraordinary energy that retains its ancient charm.
In the Anthropocene project realised in collaboration with Mara Russo, Opera Festival goes even deeper into the preservation of the territory, bringing to the surface 'the dark side' of Etna - or better to call it 'the human side' of Etna -.
In fact, the title refers to the Anthropocene era, which dates back to the beginning of significant human impact on the Earth. Through the photographic project realised with Mykki Blanco, it is denounced how the volcano, commonly photographed by tourists and artists through a static and postcard image, is not always the reality of things.
The location of the shots is in fact an illegal dump on the territory of the Etna Park. This possible representation, beyond its denunciation value, represents an opportunity to recount the otherness of a place, which we should preserve.
