Puoi spiegarci come l'influenza dei classici della techno hanno ispirato il tuo approccio "less-is-more" nella produzione di "Backward Improvement"?
Sono sempre stato un grande fan della techno classica e della vecchia scuola, basata sulla registrazione di jam, come artisti quali Surgeon, Regis, Jeff Mills, ecc.
Quindi il mio processo di produzione si è sempre ispirato a questo approccio diretto. Mi piace l'energia diretta che ne deriva. Inoltre, mi permette di non dedicare troppo tempo ad ogni elemento in studio, come l'equalizzazione, la ricerca del kick layering perfetto, ecc. Se il suono è buono e l'energia è presente, allora è buono!
Pubblicare la propria musica con un'etichetta iconica come Tresor ha un peso significativo nella scena della musica elettronica. Come contribuisce al tuo percorso artistico e cosa credi che significhi per la tua carriera nella scena techno? Inoltre, ci sono aspetti specifici dell'eredità di Tresor che risuonano con la tua visione artistica?
Pubblicare con Tresor è sempre stato un mio grande sogno, perché, come hai detto tu, è una delle etichette di musica elettronica più iconiche. Questo EP segna davvero il cambiamento del mio suono e il mio ritorno alle radici della techno. Spero che questo EP aiuti le persone a capire la mia nuova direzione. L'eredità di Tresor, come appunto i suoni primordiali della techno, è quella di non seguire le tendenze ma rimanere fedeli al proprio suono ed esplorare lo spettro della techno per ottenere sempre qualcosa di nuovo. Entrambi fanno sicuramente parte della mia visione artistica.
I titoli dei brani del tuo EP, "Backward Improvement", sembrano avere un significato molto profondo. Potresti approfondire il significato che si cela dietro la scelta dei nomi di alcuni brani? In che modo questi titoli contribuiscono alla narrazione o al tema generale dell'EP?
Ad essere sincero, non sono mai stato ispirato dai titoli dei brani. Scelgo semplicemente un nome che si adatta al brano in quel momento, senza pensarci troppo. Inoltre, per questo Ep ho inizialmente inviato una grande quantità di brani a Tresor, in un secondo momento loro hanno scelto i loro preferiti, quindi i titoli dei brani non sono stati creati per essere visti come un insieme, ma solo come una selezione di brani. Tuttavia, mi approccio agli album in modo diverso, in quanto voglio presentare un concetto completo, quindi i titoli delle tracce hanno un significato e un senso dell’interezza dell'album.
Il teaser del disco è un'anteprima della tua performance live AV con l'artista LEI. Puoi approfondire meglio il rapporto tra musica e arte visiva nel tuo lavoro e come questa collaborazione migliora l'esperienza complessiva della performance?
Le performance musicali con i visuals danno sempre qualcosa in più al pubblico. Si può andare più a fondo nella propria visione e in ciò che si vuole far sperimentare alle persone. Sono sempre stato un grande fan dell'A/V live e di festival come Atonal, ad esempio, quindi avere un mio A/V live è sempre stato uno dei miei obiettivi. Abbiamo iniziato a lavorarci con Lei per il teaser di "Backward Improvement", ma il concetto sarà basato sul mio prossimo album.
Guardando al futuro, puoi condividere qualche anticipazione sui tuoi progetti futuri?
Al momento sto ultimando il mio prossimo album, che sarà accompagnato da un Ep da solista. Abbiamo anche avuto delle belle sessioni in studio con Rodhad a gennaio, che vedranno la luce quest'anno con la sua etichetta WSNWG. Per il resto, lavoro sempre sul Live, cercando di renderlo migliore e più profondo.

Can you elaborate on how the influence of classic techno genres inspired your less-is-more approach in the production of “Backward Improvement”?
I have always been a huge fan of old school & classic techno based on jam recording like artists such as Surgeon, Regis, Jeff Mills etc.
So my production process has always been inspired by this straightforward approach. I like the direct energy it gives. Also it allows me to not spend too much time on each element in the studio like EQing, finding the perfect kick layering etc If it sounds good and the energy is there, then it's good !
Releasing your music on a label as iconic as Tresor carries significant weight in the electronic music scene. How does this contribute to your artistic journey and what do you believe it signifies for your career in the techno genre? Additionally, are there any specific aspects of Tresor’s legacy that resonate with your own artistic vision?
Releasing on Tresor has always been a big dream of mine as, as you said, it is one of the most iconic electronic music labels. This EP really marks the change in my sound and me going back to my roots of techno. I hope this EP will help people to understand my new direction. Tresor legacy such as classic techno, not following trends but staying true to your sound, exploring the techno spectrum to always achieve something new are definitely part of my own artistic vision.
The titles of the tracks on your EP,“Backward Improvement,” seem to hold a deeper meaning. Could you delve into the significance behind the choice of names for some of the tracks? How do these titles contribute to the overall narrative or theme of the EP?
To be honest, I was never inspired by track titles. I just choose a name that fits the track at the moment without overthinking about it.
Also for this Ep I initially sent a big amount of tracks to Tresor then they chose their favorite ones, so track titles weren't really made to be seen as a whole but just a selection of tracks. However, I approach Albums in a different way as I want to present a full concept so track titles have a meaning and a sense of the album format.
The teaser for the record serves as a preview of your live AV performance with the artist LEI. Can you elaborate on the relationship between music and visual art in your work and how this collaboration enhances the overall experience of your performance?
Music performance with visuals always gives something more to the audience. You can go deeper in your vision and into what you want the people to experience. I have always been a big fan of A/V live and festivals like Atonal for example so having my own A/V live has always been one of my goals. We started working on it with Lei for the teaser of « Backward Improvement » but the concept will be based on my forthcoming Album.
Looking ahead, could you share some insights into your future projects?
I’m finishing my next Album at the moment which will also come with a solo Ep. We also had cool studio sessions with Rodhad in January that will see the light this year on his label WSNWG. Otherwise, I’m always working on the Live, trying to make it better and deeper.
