Iniziamo con la premessa che il moniker di un artista riveste una rilevanza di notevole importanza. Quali sono i principali fattori che hanno influenzato la scelta del moniker "Quest" come identità artistica? Da dove deriva la scelta del moniker “Quest”?
Uno dei fattori determinanti che ha influito considerevolmente nella mia scelta è senz'altro il significato intrinseco della parola stessa, ovvero "Ricerca". Per ovvie ragioni, ho sentito immediatamente un forte legame con questa parola, poiché essa trae origine da una lirica molto cara a me, appartenente ad una particolare traccia del gruppo musicale noto come "A Tribe Called Quest", intitolata "Find Away".
Qual è l'origine e quali sono le radici della tua innata passione per la musica?
L'interesse e l'amore per la musica che ho sviluppato nel corso degli anni hanno radici profonde, e sicuramente devo attribuirne l'origine ai miei genitori, in particolare a mio padre. Fin da giovane, mio padre era membro di una band locale, dove suonava uno strumento e contribuiva alla creazione di una meravigliosa scena musicale. Questa esperienza ha forgiato il suo spirito e la sua passione per la musica, e non ha mai smesso di nutrire quel fuoco interiore nel corso degli anni.
Fin dalla mia più tenera età, sono stato circondato da cassette e CD che riempivano la nostra casa, introducendomi così ad un'ampia varietà di generi musicali e artisti di grande rilievo. Questo background musicale ha avuto un impatto significativo sulla mia crescita personale e sulle mie scelte future. Ha alimentato la mia curiosità e il desiderio di esplorare le diverse sfaccettature dell'universo musicale.
Sappiamo che hai nutrito un fervente interesse per la scena hip-hop prima di avvicinarti al mondo dell'elettronica. Quali artisti e stili musicali hanno esercitato una significativa influenza sulla tua crescita artistica?
L'influenza più significativa su di me, senza dubbio, è stata esercitata da Alien Army, un gruppo di turntablism che ha fondato uno stile unico e oscuro, con un potenziale illimitato. La presenza di un numero così vasto di membri all'interno del gruppo ha sempre esercitato un forte fascino su di me ed è ancora oggi una grande fonte di ispirazione. L'innovativo approccio al turntablism e la capacità di creare atmosfere suggestive hanno avuto un impatto profondo sulla mia percezione della musica e sulla mia volontà di esplorare nuovi orizzonti sonori.
Parallelamente, durante la mia infanzia, sono stato immerso nell'ecosistema rap che ha caratterizzato quei tempi. Artisti del calibro di Wu-Tang Clan, Nas, Mos Def e molti altri hanno rappresentato il meglio dell'hip-hop di quegli anni. La loro abilità nel trasmettere messaggi significativi attraverso le loro parole, unita a una qualità musicale eccezionale, ha contribuito a plasmare il mio gusto musicale e ha alimentato la mia passione per il genere.
La combinazione dell'influenza di Alien Army, con il loro approccio sperimentale al turntablism, e l'ascolto del meglio del rap dell'epoca ha gettato le basi per il mio percorso musicale.
Hai deciso di vivere in due città europee che sono considerate epicentri dell'elettronica e della club culture: Londra e Berlino. Come queste città hanno plasmato la tua visione musicale, stimolato la tua creatività e fornito un terreno fertile per la tua espressione artistica? In che modo queste città hanno contribuito a forgiare il tuo cammino e a delineare la tua identità musicale?
Le due città, Londra e Berlino, hanno giocato un ruolo determinante nella mia formazione musicale, influenzandomi in modi diversi. Londra, dove ho lavorato in un negozio di dischi chiamato Vinyl Pimp ad Hackney, mi ha posizionato in un ambiente che mi ha permesso di apprendere moltissimo e mi ha dato l'opportunità di affinare e ampliare il mio gusto musicale. Lavorare in un negozio di dischi mi ha esposto a una vasta gamma di generi e artisti, consentendomi di scoprire nuove sonorità e approfondire la mia conoscenza musicale.
D'altra parte, Berlino è stata un'esperienza unica in termini di condivisione di visioni e passione per la musica. Essendo circondato costantemente da persone che condividevano la stessa passione e interesse musicale, ho avuto le prime opportunità di esprimermi attraverso le tecniche e i mezzi di esecuzione musicale. La scena musicale di Berlino mi ha offerto una piattaforma per esplorare la mia creatività e divertirmi mentre mettevo in pratica ciò che avevo imparato.
Entrambe le città hanno contribuito a plasmare la mia comprensione della musica come forma d'arte e mi hanno offerto spunti e spazio per esprimere la mia individualità artistica. Londra ha favorito il mio apprendimento tecnico e il mio sviluppo musicale attraverso l'accesso a una vasta varietà di dischi e artisti. Nell'era digitale in cui ci troviamo immersi, il vinile continua a mantenere un posto speciale come supporto fisico per la musica. Con la sua calda qualità sonora e il carattere tangibile, il vinile rappresenta un simbolo intramontabile della cultura musicale. Alla luce di ciò: qual è la motivazione che sta alla base della tua decisione di adottare esclusivamente vinili per i tuoi dj set? Come l'importanza della cultura del vinile influenza il tuo approccio alla musica e all'arte del mixaggio?
Il vinile è stato il formato attraverso il quale mi sono avvicinato al mondo del DJing, e oltre ad essere una preferenza tecnica, rappresenta anche una scelta musicale per me. Molte tracce che amo e che fanno parte del mio repertorio non sono mai state pubblicate in formato digitale, e questo crea un altro mondo di ricerca che mi emoziona profondamente e mi offre una soddisfazione unica. La sensazione di trovare un vinile raro o una traccia introvabile è incredibilmente gratificante e mi dà un senso di eccitazione che non potrò mai provare utilizzando un CDJ o un’ USB. Nonostante le possibili complicazioni tecniche che possono sorgere con i giradischi, penso che sia sempre importante avere un piano di riserva e un'alternativa pronta, perché la qualità sonora e l'esperienza tattile offerta dal vinile sono irripetibili. L'ascolto di vinili mi permette di immergermi completamente nella musica, apprezzando le sfumature sonore e la calda risonanza che caratterizza questo formato analogico. Il vinile rappresenta per me un ponte tra il passato e il presente, un simbolo tangibile di una tradizione musicale che ha resistito alla prova del tempo.

La ricerca svolge un ruolo fondamentale nel mondo del DJing, poiché la magia dell'ignoto esercita un fascino irresistibile, sia sul pubblico che sul DJ stesso. La combinazione di mixing e digging, ovvero la ricerca e la scoperta di nuove tracce, crea un'emozione unica che appassiona tutti coloro che sono coinvolti nella musica. Personalmente, dedico molto tempo all'esplorazione dei negozi di dischi locali in ogni luogo che visito durante i weekend. L'esperienza di immergersi in questi luoghi speciali, scovando autentiche gemme nascoste tra gli scaffali, è un viaggio emozionante e gratificante.

La mia motivazione deriva dal fatto che, secondo me, ognuno di noi ha la sua "Nota del Diablo", un elemento unico e distintivo che ci caratterizza come artisti. È proprio questa convinzione che mi ha spinto ad aprire una piattaforma dedicata alla libera espressione artistica, dove gli artisti possono dare voce alla loro nota distintiva.
Credo fermamente che ogni artista abbia una visione e un talento unici da condividere con il mondo, e il mio obiettivo è fornire loro uno spazio in cui possano esprimersi appieno. La mia label offre una vetrina per gli artisti di ogni genere, consentendo loro di presentare le loro opere e di connettersi con un pubblico globale. Mi dedico a scoprire e promuovere nuovi talenti, cercando continuamente di ampliare la mia rete di artisti e di offrire loro opportunità di crescita e visibilità. Credo nell'importanza di dare voce a coloro che spesso rimangono nell'ombra, permettendo loro di esprimere la loro creatività e di essere ascoltati.

Le icone della musica e degli artisti che emergono da queste sottoculture diventano vere e proprie influenze di moda, con il loro modo di vestire che diventa un manifesto di identità e di espressione personale.
Allo stesso tempo, la moda può essere una forma di espressione artistica che riflette i valori e le influenze delle sottoculture e della musica. Il modo in cui ci vestiamo può trasmettere un senso di appartenenza e di partecipazione a una determinata scena o movimento culturale.

Il DJing è diventato estremamente popolare, tanto che si è verificato quasi un "sovraccarico delle console", con un numero sempre crescente di aspiranti artisti che cercano di emergere. Di fronte a questa situazione, consiglio ai giovani di oggi di essere il più originali possibile e di creare nuove comunità che portino longevità e spazio per più artisti nel mondo della musica. La saturazione delle console può portare a una certa omogeneità nella scena musicale, con molti DJ che cercano di seguire le stesse tendenze e stili per ottenere visibilità. Tuttavia, l'originalità è ciò che permette a un artista di emergere e distinguersi dalla massa. Suggerisco ai giovani di sperimentare, di trovare la propria voce unica e di esplorare nuovi territori musicali, creando così un'identità artistica autentica e originale.

Let's start with the premise that an artist's moniker holds significant importance. What are the main factors that influenced the choice of the moniker "Quest" as your artistic identity? Where does the selection of the moniker "Quest" originate from?
One of the determining factors that significantly influenced my choice is undoubtedly the intrinsic meaning of the word itself, which is "Search" or "Journey." For obvious reasons, I felt an immediate strong connection with this word, as it draws its origin from a lyric that is very dear to me, belonging to a particular track by the music group known as "A Tribe Called Quest," titled "Find a Way."
What is the origin and what are the roots of your innate passion for music?
The interest and love for music that I have developed over the years have deep roots, and I must certainly attribute them to my parents, particularly my father. From a young age, my father was a member of a local band, where he played an instrument and contributed to the creation of a wonderful music scene. This experience shaped his spirit and passion for music, and it never ceased to nurture that inner fire over the years. From my earliest days, I was surrounded by cassettes and CDs that filled our home, introducing me to a wide variety of musical genres and prominent artists. This musical background had a significant impact on my personal growth and future choices. It fueled my curiosity and desire to explore the different facets of the music universe.
We know that you nurtured a fervent interest in the hip-hop scene before delving into the world of electronic music. Which artists and musical styles have significantly influenced your artistic growth?
The most significant influence on me, without a doubt, has been Alien Army, a turntablism group that pioneered a unique and dark style with limitless potential. The presence of such a large number of members within the group has always fascinated me and remains a great source of inspiration to this day. Their innovative approach to turntablism and their ability to create evocative atmospheres have deeply impacted my perception of music and my willingness to explore new sonic horizons.
In parallel, during my childhood, I was immersed in the rap ecosystem that characterized those times. Artists of the caliber of Wu-Tang Clan, Nas, Mos Def, and many others represented the best of hip-hop in those years. Their skill in conveying meaningful messages through their lyrics, combined with exceptional musical quality, shaped my musical taste and fueled my passion for the genre.
The combination of Alien Army's experimental approach to turntablism and my exposure to the best of rap from that era laid the foundation for my musical journey.
You have chosen to live in two European cities considered epicenters of electronic music and club culture: London and Berlin. How have these cities shaped your musical vision, stimulated your creativity, and provided fertile ground for your artistic expression? How have these cities contributed to shaping your path and defining your musical identity?
Both London and Berlin have played a crucial role in my musical formation, influencing me in different ways. In London, where I worked at a record store called Vinyl Pimp in Hackney, I found myself in an environment that allowed me to learn a great deal and refine and expand my musical taste. Working at a record store exposed me to a wide range of genres and artists, enabling me to discover new sounds and deepen my knowledge of music.
On the other hand, Berlin offered a unique experience of sharing visions and a passion for music. Being constantly surrounded by people who shared the same passion and musical interest, I had the first opportunities to express myself through techniques and means of musical execution. Berlin's music scene provided me with a platform to explore my creativity and have fun while putting into practice what I had learned.
Both cities contributed to shaping my understanding of music as an art form and provided me with inspiration and space to express my artistic individuality. London facilitated my technical learning and musical development by giving me access to a wide variety of records and artists. Can you share with us the inspiration behind the name of this label and what drove you to start this project? What's the aim of this project?
The motivation behind the label's name derives from my belief that each of us has our own "Nota del Diablo" or "Devil's Note" - a unique and distinctive element that characterizes us as artists. It is precisely this conviction that drove me to open a platform dedicated to free artistic expression, where artists can give voice to their individuality.
I firmly believe that every artist has a unique vision and talent to share with the world, and my goal is to provide them with a space where they can fully express themselves. My label serves as a showcase for artists of all genres, allowing them to present their works and connect with a global audience. I am dedicated to discovering and promoting new talents, continually seeking to expand my network of artists and offer them growth opportunities and visibility.
