Qualcuno disse che “il mondo della notte” è un mondo a sé, che svanisce con le prime luci del giorno.
Abbiamo deciso di invertire le sveglie e siamo andati a fare un giro in una delle realtà della nightlife romana più influente della Capitale: il Rebel Rebel.
Cosa c’è dietro un’organizzazione come questa?
E’ ancora l’amore per la musica ad oleare tutti gli ingranaggi?
Ne abbiamo parlato con i direttori artistici per scoprire meglio la storia che c'è dietro Rebel Rebel.
La scelta del nome incide sia su chi lo porta, perché crea una dimensione emozionale, sia negli altri, perché è evocativo per ciascuno di noi. Da dove nasce il nome Rebel Rebel?
E’ stata casuale, era nel 2010 avevamo trovato questa location (l’Andrea Doria ndr) che ai tempi era ancora un posto molto wild, c’era l’erba alta un metro e mezzo e niente avevamo in mente di fare fare dei party openair. Dovevamo pensare a nome. Stavo ascoltando un po di musica, programmando un po l’organizzazione di tutto ed è partito in shuffle Rebel Rebel di Bowie.. E’ stato un attimo.. abbiamo subito pensato fosse perfetto per quel tipo di feste..
Tutti noi ricordiamo il famoso treno che si vede passare dal Circolo Andrea Doria e non possiamo non associarlo al Rebel Rebel. Negli anni ci sono stati vari cambi di location, in special modo per la stagione invernale. Quali sono i fattori principali che influiscono sulla scelta della location?
I primi party fuori dal Doria in realtà li abbiamo fatti spot senza annunciare la location fino al giorno stesso dell’evento. Erano in ex una stazione abbandonata, da lì, anche vedendo i risultati, abbiamo deciso di intraprendere un discorso invernale. Gli anni successivi ci spostammo in un capannone sulla Salaria, le prime due serate spot furono con Laurent Garnier e Dixon, il concept si chiamava Rebel Warehouse. Dopo quelle due serate avevamo trovato la quadra per fare un progetto più a lungo termine e la location venne chiamata proprio Warehouse. Abbiamo fatto cinque stagioni li. Dopo ci siamo sposati al Goa, tre stagioni fantastiche in un locale che non ha bisogno di presentazioni. Un onore, un club unico che ha fatto la storia. Dopo il break forzato della pandemia abbiamo riaperto l’Andrea Doria l’estate scorsa (2022) e ora ci troviamo al Cieloterra, location che ha tutti i connotati per essere la nostra nuova casa invernale.
Nel mondo della notte romana, ad oggi, Rebel Rebel è una delle organizzazioni più forti e durature. Quali sono i valori in cui vi riconoscete maggiormente?
Abbiamo sempre cercato di portare avanti le nostre idee, alle spalle c’è tanta attenzione e cura nei particolari. Principalmente puntiamo sulla musica ed a fare star bene i nostri clienti.
La musica è un mezzo per socializzare e per condividere con gli altri momenti, esperienze ed emozioni. Tantissimi sono gli artisti che hanno preso parte al mondo di Rebel Rebel: in che modo viene fatta la scelta artistica e musicale?
Facciamo scelte basate sui nostri gusti, spesso instauriamo rapporti duraturi con artisti con cui si crea un feeling particolare tra loro e il nostro party.
Crediamo che “il team” sia il punto di forza per organizzazioni come Rebel Rebel. Com’è cambiato, in questo tempo, il gruppo Rebel Rebel qual è il segreto per mettere in piedi una squadra vincente?
Abbiamo iniziato questo percorso insieme nel 2010, abbiamo idee ben chiare ed alla base di tutto c’è un grande rispetto reciproco. Pian piano la crew si è ingrandita e consolidata nel tempo.
Due anni dopo il Covid, siamo tornati lentamente alla normalità. Come è cambiato Rebel Rebel nel corso degli anni?
E’ stata molto tosta, come tutti in questo settore abbiamo pensato anche di smettere, c’era tanta incertezza di come sarebbe stata la situazione dopo, paura perdere il nostro giro. In realtà post covid abbiamo rafforzato la nostra posizione. Sicuramente è diverso da prima, qualcosa è cambiato, ma vediamo che c’è sempre tanta energia da parte del pubblico e negli ultimi eventi si è creato qualcosa di diverso, nuove generazioni si sono unite perfettamente con la vecchia guardia.
Una delle nostre più grandi soddisfazioni è sempre stata quella di avere costantemente un grande feedback di gente che ci segue dall’estero e che quando viene a Roma è sempre presente in un buon numero.
Quali saranno i prossimi passi di Rebel Rebel?
Abbiamo in programma serate al Cieloterra e Kasa Kumbas, la prossima gig è l’11 febbraio insieme a voi, con Quest. I prossimi mesi ospiteremo Adiel e Marcel Dettmann.. Dopodiché è in programma la stagione estiva all’ Andrea Doria da giugno a settembre, la nostra casa.

The choice of name affects both those who bear it, because it creates an emotional dimension, and others, because it is evocative for each of us. Where did the name Rebel Rebel come from?
It was by chance, it was in 2010 we had found this location (the Andrea Doria ed.) which at the time was still a very wild place, there was grass a metre and a half high, and we had nothing in mind to do openair parties. We had to think of a name. I was listening to some music, planning it all out a bit and Bowie's Rebel Rebel shuffle started.. It was a moment... we immediately thought it was perfect for that kind of party...
We all remember the famous train you see passing by the Circolo Andrea Doria and we can't help but associate it with the Rebel Rebel. Over the years there have been several location changes, especially for the winter season. What are the main factors influencing the choice of location?
The first parties outside the Doria we actually did spot without announcing the location until the day of the event. They were in a former abandoned station, from there, also seeing the results, we decided to go winter. The following years we moved to a shed on the Salaria, the first two spot evenings were with Laurent Garnier and Dixon, the concept was called Rebel Warehouse. After those two evenings, we had found the right framework to do a more long-term project and the location was called Warehouse. We did five seasons there. After that we went to Goa, three fantastic seasons in a club that needs no introduction. An honour, a unique club that made history. After the forced break due to the pandemic we reopened the Andrea Doria last summer (2022) and now we are at Cieloterra, a location that has all the trappings of being our new winter home.
In the Roman nightlife world, to date, Rebel Rebel is one of the strongest and most enduring organisations. What values do you most identify with?
We have always tried to carry out our ideas, behind them there is a lot of attention and care for details. We mainly focus on music and making our customers feel good.
Music is a means of socialising and sharing moments, experiences and emotions with others. There are many artists who have taken part in the world of Rebel Rebel: how do you make your artistic and musical choices?
We make choices based on our tastes, we often establish lasting relationships with artists with whom a special feeling is created between them and our party.
We believe that 'the team' is the strength for organisations like Rebel Rebel. How has the Rebel Rebel group changed over this time and what is the secret to building a winning team?
We started this journey together in 2010, we have very clear ideas and at the basis of everything is a great mutual respect. Gradually the crew has grown and consolidated over time.
Two years after Covid, we slowly returned to normal. How has Rebel Rebel changed over the years?
It was very tough, like everyone in this industry we even thought about quitting, there was so much uncertainty of what the situation would be like afterwards, fear of losing our ride. Actually post covid we have strengthened our position. For sure it's different from before, something has changed, but we see that there is always a lot of energy from the public and at the last events something different has been created, new generations have merged perfectly with the old guard.
One of our greatest satisfactions has always been to constantly have great feedback from people who follow us from abroad and who are always present in good numbers when they come to Rome.
What are Rebel Rebel's next steps?
We are planning evenings at Cieloterra and Kasa Kumbas, the next gig is on 11 February with Quest. In the coming months we'll be hosting Adiel and Marcel Dettmann. Then we're planning the summer season at Andrea Doria from June to September, our home.
