Quasi 30 anni fa, la famiglia Arnau ha avuto un grande sogno. Dopo aver scoperto tutti i principali rave in Inghilterra e in Europa centrale, alla fine di una di quelle indimenticabili session del club Florida 135 dei grandi eroi della techno, visitarono la fattoria di famiglia, nel deserto di Los Monegros. Era l'alba e le stelle brillavano ancora nel cielo e proprio lì, seduti su una balla, la famiglia Arnau decise di trasformare quello spazio in una grande pista da ballo, una decisione da pazzi se ci spostiamo per un attimo al 1992.

Quello che era nato come un semplice incontro di amici e appassionati di musica, col tempo si è consolidato come un punto di riferimento fondamentale nella scena della musica elettronica a livello internazionale.

Ha assorbito il meglio di quel movimento che si è fatto strada nei club e nei rave più underground di tutta Europa; ma ha anche creato un nuovo concetto di divertimento "la Ravervena": un mix di musica, ballo, divertimento, festa e famiglia.

Ora, dopo un periodo di lunga preparazione e finalmente usciti da una pandemia verrà presentata una nuova edizione del Monegros Festival.

Quando siamo giovani pensiamo di essere immortali. Ma, in realtà, l'immortalità si raggiunge solo quando siamo i protagonisti di una storia basata su successi unici. Vi invitiamo a essere protagonisti di questa impresa, una grande esperienza che segnerà senza dubbio un prima e un dopo nella storia del Festival più sorprendente che possiate immaginare.

Ne abbiamo parlato con Arnau Cruz, direttrice creativa e figlia (nel vero senso della parola) del festival più atteso dell’anno: Monegros Festival.

Due anni dopo il Covid, torniamo a uno dei festival che amiamo di più. Come è cambiato Monegros nel corso degli anni?

Veniamo da una pausa di due anni per la pandemia, ma Monegros ha avuto una pausa precedente di 8 anni.

Durante questo periodo, la vita delle persone è cambiata molto, così come ciò che si aspettano di vivere in un evento. Se parliamo di creatività, produzione e dimensioni, il livello è di gran lunga superiore a quello dell'ultima edizione. In effetti, non c'è paragone. Circa 1,2 km di terreno con 55.000 anime nel deserto e 11 palchi, una gamma sempre più ampia di stili musicali, in breve, un'avventura creativa molto esperienziale e autentica. Tuttavia, abbiamo mantenuto l'essenza originale di sempre e lo stesso spirito RAVE.

Partendo dalla techno per l'hip-hop, la drum n bass, la tech house, ecc. Monegros è un mix di diversi generi musicali. Perché avete deciso di riunire tutti questi generi in un unico luogo?

Il nostro piano per i prossimi anni è di includere nuovi suoni, sempre di più. A Monegros, tutti sono i benvenuti e ci piace l'idea che tribù diverse si riuniscano, uniscano le forze e si mescolino nel bel mezzo del nulla. È bello che le persone scoprano nuovi generi musicali e li condividano. Lasciamo che sperimentino qualcosa di nuovo e si sorprendano. Per esempio, quest'anno abbiamo incluso il reggae. Penso che sarà un successo... e per le edizioni future abbiamo già in mente nuovi generi... vediamo :)

Revervena: un mix di musica, ballo, intrattenimento, festa e famiglia. Ci puoi spiegare meglio questo nuovo concetto che avete sviluppato?

Rave-verbena è una parola che descriveva molto bene Monegros più di 20 anni fa, e i miei genitori la usavano molto in quegli anni. Per questo motivo abbiamo voluto continuare e dare molta importanza alla parola RAVE. Questo rende omaggio alla generazione dei rave party degli anni '90, ai nostri genitori. RAVE, che significa radicale, audio, visivo ed esperienziale, è senza dubbio la descrizione di Monegros 2022 e di ciò che si vivrà quest'anno nel deserto.

Esperienze immersive a 360 gradi, potenza sonora inimmaginabile ed arte , perché pensi sia importante combinare musica e arte insieme?

Oggi è difficile sorprendere le persone, ci sono molte cose a portata di mano, ed è impegnativo creare qualcosa di nuovo che abbia un impatto, qualcosa con cui la gente vada fuori di testa e, soprattutto, qualcosa che non venga paragonato o criticato. La gente cerca esperienze che la soddisfino, che non ha mai vissuto, che non può descrivere o spiegare a parole. Bisogna essere creativi e combinare musica, arte, ecc. Dare loro un mondo immersivo o intenso, difficile da digerire, che provochi in loro una sensazione nuova e molto soddisfacente. Musica e arte vanno sempre a braccetto.

29 anni e ancora Monegros è uno dei migliori festival del mondo, perché la gente dovrebbe venire al Monegros Festival?

Monegros è MAGIA. È una delle sensazioni da provare almeno una volta nella vita. Per me e mio fratello è l'edizione fondamentale della nostra carriera, di tutti i festival che abbiamo fatto finora. È il nostro bambino. È impegnativo seguire l'eredità lasciata dai nostri genitori, e ora vogliamo che siano orgogliosi. Vogliamo che anche loro si spaventino sabato prossimo quando vedranno la città temporanea di Monegros in funzione. È una sfida, e a noi piacciono le sfide, siamo pronti a farvi vedere e vivere quello che abbiamo preparato per anni. Finalmente sta per diventare realtà. Dovete venire a vedere e vivere Monegros in prima persona, 24 ore di follia! Un festival che, in un batter d’occhio, vi farà passare alcuni dei momenti più belli della vostra vita.

Almost 30 years ago, the Arnau family had a big dream. After discovering all the major raves in England and Central Europe, at the end of one of those unforgettable Florida 135 club sessions by the great heroes of techno, they visited the family farm in the Los Monegros desert. It was dawn and the stars were still shining in the sky and right there, sitting on a bale, the Arnau family decided to turn that space into a big dance floor, a crazy decision if we move back to 1992 for a moment.

What began as a simple gathering of friends and music lovers, over time consolidated as a key reference point in the electronic music scene internationally.

It has absorbed the best of that movement that made its way to the most underground clubs and raves throughout Europe; but it has also created a new concept of entertainment "la Ravervena": a mix of music, dance, fun, party and family.

Now, after a period of long preparation and finally coming out of a pandemic a new edition of Monegros Festival will be presented.

When we are young we think we are immortal. But, in reality, immortality is achieved only when we are the protagonists of a story based on unique achievements. We invite you to be the protagonists of this feat, a great experience that will undoubtedly mark a before and after in the history of the most amazing Festival you can imagine.

Two years after Covid, back to one of the festival we love the most. How Monegros is changed over the years?

We are coming from a two-year hiatus for the pandemic, but Monegros has had an 8-year break.

During this time, people's lives have changed a lot, as well as what they expect to experience in an event. If we talk about creativity, production and size, it is far greater than in the last edition. In fact, it could not be compared. Around 1.2 km of land with 55,000 souls in the desert and 11 stages, an increasingly wide range of musical styles, in short, a very experiential and authentic creative adventure. Yet we have still maintained the original essence as always and the same RAVE spirit.

Starting from techno and going to hip-hop, drum n bass, tech house, etc. Monegros is a mix of different musical genres. Why did you decide to put all this genres together in one place?

Our plan in coming years is to include new sounds, more and more. In Monegros, everyone is welcome, and we love the idea of different tribes coming together, joining forces and mixing in the middle of nowhere. It's great that people discover new musical genres and share them. Let them experiment with something new and surprise themselves. For example, this year we have included reggae. I think it will be a success... and for future editions, we already have new genres in mind... let's see :)

Revervena: a mix of music, dance, entertainment, party and family. Can you please explain more about this new concept of you developed?

Rave-verbena is a word that described Monegros very well more than 20 years ago, and my parents used it a lot in those years. That's why we wanted to continue and give a lot of importance to the word RAVE. That pays tribute to the generation of the rave parties of the 90s, to our parents. RAVE, which means radical, audio, visual, and experience, is undoubtedly the description of Monegros 2022 and what will be experienced this year in the desert.

360° immersive experiences, unimaginable sound power, ephemeral art, why do you think is important combining music and art together?

People today are difficult to surprise, there are many things within our reach, and it is challenging to create something new that has an impact, something that people freak out with and above all, something that they did not compare or criticise. People look for experiences that satisfy them, that they have never lived, that they cannot describe or explain with words. You have to be creative and combine music, art, etc. Give them an immersive or intense world that is difficult for them to digest and causes them a new and very satisfying sensation. Music and art always hand in hand.

29 years and still rockin’, why people should come to Monegros Festival?

Monegros is MAGIC. It is one of the sensations you must experience at least once in your life. For my brother and I, it is the essential edition of our career, of all the festivals we have done to date. It's our baby. It is challenging to follow a legacy that our parents left, and now we want them to be proud. We want even them to freak out next Saturday when they see the temporary city of Monegros in operation. It is a challenge, and we like challenges, we are ready for you to see and experience what we have been preparing for years. It is finally going to come true.
