Richie Hawtin, visionario della musica elettronica e pioniere della techno, svela una borsa di studio per il dottorato di ricerca presso l'Università di Huddersfield.
Le domande per la borsa di studio, intitolata The Richie Hawtin PhD Scholarship in Electronic Music, Cultures and Production, sono aperte fino al 10 febbraio con inizio dei corsi a settembre 2023. Il candidato vincitore sarà selezionato dall'università con la guida di Richie Hawtin, che offrirà anche un supporto per tutta la durata della borsa di studio.
Il professor Rupert Till, capo del Dipartimento di Musica e Arti del Design dell'Università e acclamato musicista con il nome di Professor Chill, ha dichiarato: "Le possibilità di ricerca nell'ambito di questo dottorato sono enormi". "Potrebbe essere qualsiasi cosa nell'ambito della musica, come la musica elettronica, la musica da ballo, la musica da club, la cultura dei DJ o anche la composizione o l'analisi".
"Richie ha creato le sue label, le sue società legate al mondo della tecnologia, un fondo di investimento, un brand di sake, ha gestito una residenza a Ibiza e ha scritto molti album di genere. Questa è una splendida opportunità per attingere alle sue conoscenze e alla sua esperienza".
Parlando della borsa di studio per il dottorato, Richie Hawtin ha commentato: "Sono onorato di continuare il mio rapporto con l'Università di Huddersfield e di partecipare al loro programma di borse di studio per il dottorato. La mia speranza è quella di offrire la mia esperienza e la mia visione delle molte aree della cultura Techno in cui sono stato coinvolto negli ultimi trent'anni. Per assistere gli studenti nell'esplorazione del passato e dei meccanismi interni della nostra industria e aiutarli a offrire una nuova analisi critica da una prospettiva contemporanea".
Gli Overmono hanno annunciato il loro album di debutto: Good Lies sarà pubblicato il 12 maggio via XL Recordings.
L'atteso debutto fa seguito a una serie di EP realizzati tra il 2020 e il 2022 che hanno costruito la reputazione del duo come uno dei nuovi gruppi di musica elettronica più interessanti degli ultimi tempi.
E’ possibile ascoltare il loro nuovo singolo "Is U", accompagnato da un video del fotografo e regista Rollo Jackson.
"Negli ultimi due anni abbiamo trascorso molto tempo in viaggio, facendo musica ogni volta che potevamo", spiega il duo. "Muoverci continuamente è sempre stato di grande ispirazione e ci ha portato a sperimentare molto e a divertirci con il modo in cui creavamo gli accordi o le parti vocali tagliate e intonate. Questo album è davvero una lettera d'amore al viaggio fatto finora e segna la direzione che vogliamo prendere".

Il Fuse, uno dei club più noti del Belgio, sta per chiudere.
Il team che gestisce il locale di Bruxelles, che ha una capienza di 800 posti, ha confermato la chiusura sui social media, rivelando che la chiusura sarà effettiva da subito. La chiusura del locale è avvenuta, secondo quanto dichiarato, in seguito alle lamentele di un singolo vicino.
Secondo Fuse, questo vicino ha acquistato una casa accanto al club "alcuni anni fa" e ha presentato ripetute lamentele sul locale. Sono stati fatti dei tentativi per mitigare il problema, tra cui dei lavori di insonorizzazione, ma non hanno avuto successo, ha dichiarato Fuse.
Di conseguenza, il governo di Bruxelles ha ordinato al Fuse di limitare il volume della musica a 95 dB e di chiudere le porte alle 2 di notte, il che, secondo il club, renderebbe "impossibile" continuare a funzionare. Sebbene il club sia già chiuso, il team dietro il locale ha presentato un ricorso, il cui esito dovrebbe essere noto entro il 25 gennaio.

Il locale, aperto nel 1994, è stato da allora uno dei punti di riferimento della scena clubbing locale, ospitando spesso eventi con artisti locali e vari nomi internazionali della scena musicale elettronica.
Nel frattempo, la Brussels By Night Federation ha anche lanciato una petizione online chiamata "Save The Fuse", che ha raccolto più di 20.000 firme in meno di un giorno. Il messaggio è chiaro: molti abitanti di Bruxelles (e del Belgio) non vogliono veder scomparire il loro amato club techno.

Il Field Day Festival di Londra sembra aver sottilmente annunciato che Aphex Twin sarà l'headliner, con la comparsa di una pagina web misteriosa.
Il leggendario produttore Aphex Twin (vero nome Richard D. James) ha lasciato intendere che apparirà all'edizione 2023 del festival londinese Field Day attraverso un misterioso sito web.
Il 19 gennaio è apparsa una pagina web con il dominio 190823.co.uk, che corrisponde alla data del festival (19 agosto 2023) al Victoria Park di East London.
Nel tipico stile di Aphex Twin, il sito contiene poche informazioni, con la scritta "LONDON" sparsa al centro della pagina e il suo logo distintivo che riempie le due O della parola.
Si è aggiunto poi ieri un post sulla pagina instagram del festival, con l'immagine della regina Elisabetta accompagnato dalla frase COME TO NANNY! Riferimento abbastanza legato al singolo COME TO DADDY dell'artista.
Il Walkman di Sony torna come lettore di streaming ad alta risoluzione.
Sony sta reintroducendo il suo iconico lettore musicale Walkman, anche se in una forma che chi ha posseduto un modello originale negli anni '80 farà fatica a riconoscere.

Electronic music visionary and techno pioneer Richie Hawtin unveils a PhD scholarship at the University of Huddersfield.
Applications for the scholarship, entitled The Richie Hawtin PhD Scholarship in Electronic Music, Cultures and Production, are open until 10 February with courses starting in September 2023. The winning candidate will be selected by the university with guidance from Richie Hawtin, who will also offer support for the duration of the scholarship.

To assist students in exploring the past and inner workings of our industry and help them offer a new critical analysis from a contemporary perspective."
Overmono have announced their debut album: Good Lies will be released on 12 May via XL Recordings.
The long-awaited debut follows a series of EPs released between 2020 and 2022 that have built the duo's reputation as one of the most exciting new electronic music groups of recent times.

Fuse, one of Belgium's best known clubs, is closing.
The team running the 800-capacity Brussels venue confirmed the closure on social media, revealing that the closure will be effective immediately. The closure of the venue reportedly came about as a result of complaints from an individual neighbour.
According to Fuse, this neighbour bought a house next to the club 'a few years ago' and made repeated complaints about the venue. Attempts were made to mitigate the problem, including soundproofing work, but were unsuccessful, Fuse said.
As a result, the Brussels government ordered Fuse to limit the volume of music to 95 dB and to close the doors at 2am, which, according to the club, would make it 'impossible' to continue operating. Although the club is already closed, the team behind the venue has filed an appeal, the outcome of which is expected to be known by 25 January.
"It is truly regrettable that an iconic club that brings together thousands of music lovers and artists, which employs ten people during the week and 80 at the weekend, is put at risk because of a neighbour," the club said in a statement confirming its closure. "It is clear that the closure of the Fuse Club and the parties it hosts also has an impact on the local economy, foreign tourism and the cultural life of Brussels."
The club, which opened in 1994, has since been a landmark of the local clubbing scene, often hosting events with local artists and various international names from the electronic music scene.
Meanwhile, the Brussels By Night Federation has also launched an online petition called 'Save The Fuse', which has collected more than 20,000 signatures in less than a day. The message is clear: many inhabitants of Brussels (and Belgium) do not want to see their beloved techno club disappear.

London's Field Day Festival seems to have subtly announced that Aphex Twin will be the headliner, with the appearance of a mysterious webpage.
Legendary producer Aphex Twin (real name Richard D. James) has hinted that he will appear at the 2023 edition of London's Field Day festival via a mysterious website.
On 19 January, a webpage appeared with the domain 190823.co.uk, which corresponds to the date of the festival (19 August 2023) at Victoria Park in East London.
In typical Aphex Twin style, the site contains little information, with the words 'LONDON' scattered across the centre of the page and his distinctive logo filling in the two O's of the word.
Sony's Walkman returns as a high-resolution streaming player.
Sony is reintroducing its iconic Walkman music player, albeit in a form that those who owned an original model in the 1980s will struggle to recognise.
The new edition of the NW-ZX700 series is described as 'an engineering evolution of portable sound' that, according to Sony, 'inherits the philosophy of the Signature Walkman®'.
It boasts a high-resolution S-Master HX™ digital amplifier, a large, high-polymer solid capacitor and a high-quality sound solder containing gold for improved sound localisation.
