Surgeon ha un nuovo album in uscita per l'etichetta berlinese Tresor, Crash Recoil.

Surgeon è stato uno degli artisti più all'avanguardia della techno britannica dal 1992, pubblicando album per Tresor, la sua Dynamic Tension Records e altro ancora. L'anno scorso ha pubblicato The Golden Sea su Ilian Tape. Nel corso della sua carriera, l'artista residente a Birmingham, in Inghilterra, si è fatto conoscere per il suo suono techno duro, con un'impronta industriale, ma anche un sacco di funk, swing e un sofisticato senso del dub-space.
Crash Recoil è il primo album di Surgeon in cinque anni, dopo Luminosity Device del 2018. Nasce da un periodo in cui l'artista ha provato un forte sentimento di incertezza nel suo ruolo di produttore techno e ha trovato difficile trovare l'ispirazione per la produzione di un nuovo album.
Questo album lo vede attingere alle tecniche spontanee dei suoi live set, che gli hanno permesso di catturare l'energia naturale dei suoi spettacoli in un modo che non aveva mai fatto prima.
"Questo non è un album dal vivo, poiché non è stato registrato in una sola volta durante una performance live. Nello stesso modo in cui le band portano in tour le canzoni prima di entrare in studio per registrare un album, io ho potuto esplorare queste canzoni e affinare la loro efficacia durante le mie esibizioni dal vivo prima di creare una versione in studio."
Il risultato sono otto tracce che enfatizzano un "nuovo suono techno" per Surgeon, ci dicono, attingendo riferimenti da tutto lo spettro musicale. "Si possono sentire Coil, King Tubby, la techno di Detroit e i Cure, il tutto racchiuso in 30 anni di DJing", dice Surgeon a proposito dell'album.

Questa pubblicazione è l'ultima della serie di ristampe del catalogo Drexciya di Tresor, che comprende anche Digital Tsunami e Neptune's Lair.

Selfish" è un singolo di lancio esplosivo, guidato da una linea di basso punk, da echi spettrali e dal mix di sputi e canto di Slowthai.
Parlando di ciò che pensa significhi essere egoisti, Slowthai ha detto di avere sentimenti contrastanti sul fatto di non avere abbastanza tempo per coloro che lo circondano. "Voglio essere presente per loro, ma mi sforzo sempre di lavorare, di andare oltre", ha detto.
Il titolo dell'album è l'acronimo di U Gotta Love Yourself, che Slowthai ha segnato in modo permanente sul suo volto con un tatuaggio.

"Mi sentivo davvero come se non volessi fare rap, mentre prima il rap era l'unico modo in cui potevo esprimermi con gli strumenti che avevo. Ora che ho più libertà di creare e fare di più, perché non cambiare?".
Thomas Bangalter dei Daft Punk pubblicherà il nuovo album orchestrale Mythologies.
È il suo primo album ufficiale da solista in due decenni.

Surgeon has a new album, Crash Recoil, on the way through Berlin-based label Tresor.
Tresor Records will release Crash Recoil, a new album from Surgeon, born Anthony Child.
Surgeon has been at the forefront of UK techno since 1992, releasing albums on Tresor, his own Dynamic Tension Records and others. Last year he released The Golden Sea on Ilian Tape. Over the course of his career, the Birmingham, England-based artist has become known for his tough techno sound with an industrial edge, but also plenty of funk, swing and a sophisticated sense of dub space.
Crash Recoil is Child's first album in five years, following 2018's Luminosity Device. It stems from a period when he felt insecure in his role as a techno producer, and found it difficult to feel inspired.
This album finds him drawing on spontaneous techniques from his live sets, which allowed him to capture the spontaneous energy of his shows in a way he had never done before.
"This is not a live album because it was not recorded in one go during a live performance. In the same way that bands play songs on tour before going into the studio to record an album, I was able to explore these songs and hone their effectiveness during my live performances before creating a studio version".
The result is eight tracks that emphasise a "new techno sound" for Surgeon, we're told, drawing references from across the musical spectrum. "I can hear Coil, King Tubby, Detroit techno and The Cure all wrapped up in 30 years of DJing," says Surgeon of the album.

This release is the latest in Tresor's Drexciya catalogue reissue series, which also includes Digital Tsunami and Neptune's Lair.

Chicago veteran Traxman announces first overseas tour in three years.
Traxman has announced five European dates and a night in Mexico City as part of his Get It Moving tour.
Celebrated for his influence on the juke, footwork and ghetto house scenes, the Chicago DJ hasn't played outside the US since February 2020. His European dates kick off on 27 January at the Ying Yang Club in Biel, Switzerland, followed by appearances on Fribourg's TRNSTN Radio on 30 January and RaBe Radio Bern on 1 February.
In Berlin, Traxman will play an in-store at record store Sound Metaphors on 3rd February before rounding off the European leg of the tour with a set at Sameheads on 4th February. After a night in Chicago (Amberg Hall on February 10th), the tour culminates in a Funkmasterz event in Mexico City on February 25th.

Slowthai announces new album Ugly, shares new song “Selfish”.
Slowthai has has shared details of his new album, ‘UGLY’, alongside the release of first single ‘Selfish’.
‘Selfish’, meanwhile, is a blistering lead single carried by a driving, punk bassline, ghostly echoes and Slowthai’s mix of spits and singing.
Speaking about what he thinks it means to be selfish, Slowthai said that he has conflicted feelings about not having enough time for those around him. “I want to be there for them but I’m always striving, working, reaching further,” he said.
The title of the album is an acronym for U Gotta Love Yourself, which Slowthai has marked permanently on his face with a tattoo.
The artist has channelled his love of acts including Nirvana, Radiohead and Daniel Johnston and finally felt that it was time to explore singing more. “This album was me trying to emulate the spirit of the brotherhood ethos that bands have. Music is about the feeling and emotion that goes into it. Like an artist making a painting, it’s the expression of that moment in time,” he said.
“I really felt like I didn’t want to rap, whereas before, rap was the only way I could express myself with the tools I had. Now that I have more freedom to create and do more, why wouldn’t we change it up?”
Daft Punk's Thomas Bangalter is to release a new orchestral album, Mythologies.
It's his first official solo album in two decades.
The album was originally conceived as a score for a ballet to be performed at the Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux in July 2022.
Mythologies was co-produced by the Opéra National de Bordeaux and the Ballet Preljocal. It lasted 90 minutes and aimed to explore the "founding myths that shape the collective imagination".
The album will be released on 7 April via Erato/Warner Classics and is described as "reflecting the grand traditional power of a symphony and as such embracing the history of orchestral ballet music".
