Prest è un DJ e producer attivo nella scena musicale romana dal 2016. Nei suoi mixati e produzioni ama sperimentare tutte lesonorità della musica elettronica, spaziando tra UK Bass, Garage, Breaks, Electro, creando sempre la giusta atmosfera per ogni dancefloor.
Negli ultimi 5 anni, ha rilasciato guest mix per radio e piattaforme quali NTS Radio,Rinse France, Balamii, Foundation FM, Reprezent e Triple J. È co-fondatore diRadio Sugo (piattaforma indipendente di broadcasting musicale) e ha una residency mensile su Radio Raheem aMilano.
La sua visione contemporanea lo rende ad oggi uno dei DJs più interessanti della capitale.
Body + Mind il suo primo Ep con l’etichetta portoghese XXIII non è altro che un viaggio percussivo in quattro diversi paesaggi sonori che segnano l’incontro tra questi due elementi.
L’ EP ricrea quattro diversi paesaggi sonori per celebrare i punti di incontro tra corpo e mente.
Body + Mind: un titolo sicuramente evocativo e legato al mondo della club culture, cosa in nasconde dietro la scelta di questo nome?
Ci ho ragionato molto e alla fine ho scelto questo concetto che mi piaceva molto, un concetto molto filosofico. Si tratta infatti del dualismo tra corpo e mente.
L’EP si chiama Body + Mind perché ho studiato l’Ep in modo da dargli un concept che potesse avere un senso per i suoni che ho inserito e per il percorso musicale che ho fatto sia di Bpm che di dinamica del suono. Ho individuato l’incontro tra corpo e mente tramite la musica, specialmente nella musica percussiva ricorrente nell’album. Musica con una ritmica ed un’energia ben precisa, in grado di legare corpo e mente. Ho deciso quindi di incentrare il tutto su questo discorso, e di focalizzarmi poi molto sul “+”. Il simbolo “+” infatti rappresenta proprio l’incontro fra corpo e mente.
L’Ep è stato curato dalla label portoghese XXIII. Da dove nasce il tuo rapporto con questa realtà?
Seguivo la label da molto tempo e nella maniera più spontanea possibile ho prodotte quelle tracce e gliele ho mandate. Non avevo nessun contatto con loro e loro dopo un paio di mesi mi hanno risposto dicendomi appunto che il progetto era di loro interesse. Devo dire che sono stati molto pazienti, abbiamo chiuso il progetto entrambi molto soddisfatti del lavoro finale.
L’artwork dell’Ep richiama chiaramente tutto il concept dell’Ep. Ci racconti meglio il percorso e la storia dietro all’artwork?
Con l’aiuto della label abbiamo commissionato l’artwork all’artista portoghese Miquel Viga. La label me lo ha presentato e mi ha fatto vedere dei lavori che aveva fatto. Lui devo dire che sposa molto questa idea concettuale, astratta e filosofica dell’arte visiva. L’unica cosa che volevo fosse impattante a livello visivo è stato proprio il simbolo del “+”. Doveva essere l’elemento di riferimento dell’artwork.
Parlando invece del mastering, chi ha curato questa parte dell’Ep?
Il mastering è stato curato da Sam Interface, producer londinese super riconosciuto che è un sound engeneer molto bravo. Lui lavora con la label da molto tempo e si occupa di tutta la parte di mastering per poter dare una coerenza al suono della label.
Sono molto contento di aver potuto collaborare con lui.
Il tuo percorso musicale nasce da dj per trasformarsi ed elevarsi a produttore musicale. Cosa ti ha spinto a fare questa scelta artistica?
Ad un certo punto ti rendi conto che non ti basta più soltanto suonare la musica ma vuoi andare più nel profondo. Ho sentito la necessità di andare oltre. Di iniziare un percorso che mi potesse far crescere ancora di più come artista. Devo dire che è stato tutto molto naturale. La pandemia ha avuto un ruolo fondamentale in questa mia crescita artistica e sopratutto personale. Da una parte non mi ha dato permesso di crescere dal punto di vista del djing, dall’altra paradossalmente mi ha consentito di costruirmi tanti contatti a livello europeo. Il fatto di fermarsi ci ha dato la possibilità di metterci in contatto con persone che fanno la stessa nostra cosa in un altro paese, con un’altra cultura, altre idee. Devo dire nonostante tutto molto stimolante.
Ci racconti meglio il significato dei nomi delle singole tracce dell’Ep?
The way: Nasce nel 2019, stavo giocando con un sample di questa traccia inglese drum’nbass, jungle in cui queste due parole si ripetevano in loop. Ho voluto provare ad utilizzarlo all’interno di un pattern ritmico differente e da lì ne uscita la prima traccia dell’Ep. E’ la traccia che preferisco dell’Ep, quella a cui sono più legato perché appunto è stata la prima che ho chiuso.
Sbtrack: doveva chiamarsi Supermassive Track perché il plugin che ho utilizzato più spesso in quella traccia è un Supermassive di Valahlla che è un plug in che ti dà la possibilità di inserire degli audio effect nelle tracce. Ho abusato di questo plug in quasi in tutte le tracce e per questo ho deciso di dedicare una traccia a questo nome, trasformatosi poi in SupermassiveBlack Track, diventato in fine SBtrack.
Lack of time: terza traccia dell’Ep. E’ la traccia che ho fatto per ultima e che mi ha fatto perdere più tempo di tutte a livello di costruzione. Per questo motivo ho deciso di chiamarla così.
Black Lotus: durante la pandemia insieme ad un amico ci siamo messi a rivedere tutte le cose che facevamo da ragazzini. Una di queste era il gioco di carte “Magick”. All’interno del gioco c’era una carta che si chiama Black Lotus che è una carta molto importante e super rara che ti consente di sbloccare il gioco e di portare a casa la partita. Questa traccia è stata un po’ questo, mi ha permesso di “sbloccarmi”, continuando a produrre altre tracce che mi hanno permesso poi di concludere l’Ep.
Possiamo dire che il tuo “suono” è molto Uk oriented. Sicuramente un suono non legato alla nostra cultura musicale. In che modo ti sei avvicinato a questo mondo sonoro?
Il momento in cui mi sono avvicinato all’elettronica risale ad un periodo della mia vita dove ho vissuto a Brighton. Ho passato 4 mesi lì che mi hanno formato dal punto di vista musicale essendo questa musica parte della loro cultura. Da lì piano piano mi sono avvicinato a tante cose. E’ stato il mattoncino che mi ha permesso di avvicinarmi ad altri mondi musicali. Non mi sento di dire che sono vincolato ad un solo genere musicale. Mi piace avere una visione ampia, a 360° della musica elettronica. Penso che sia molto importante avere una sensibilità ed una coerenza verso la musica che possano permetterti di coinvolgere più generi musicali insieme in maniera intelligente.
Ogni suono ha un suo spazio, qual è lo spazio in cui sentiresti Body + Mind?
E’ un disco sicuramente molto club-oriented come suono. Lo sento nei club, nei radio-show. E’ quello che in realtà poi sta succedendo. Sai, il concetto dietro la club music è che abbia un’energia particolare che ti spinge a ballare, che ti susciti delle emozioni. Penso che Body + Mind abbia questo tipo di energia.
Cosa dobbiamo aspettarci nei prossimi mesi? Progetti Futuri?
E’ il momento di far uscire dei nuovi progetti. Sono al lavoro su un Ep di sei tracce con Drone della 126 dai suoni electro/breakbeat. Sarò presente come dj in vari festival quest’estate. Due festival che ammiro molto. Tantissime date a Roma: Bar India, Palazzo Brancaccio, un altro party di Havana Club x Noisey. Ci sarà uno showcase del mio collettivo Louder Visions all’Hotel Butterfly ed altre date a Milano. A proposito di Milano sto continuando la mia stagione con Radio Raheem che concluderò con un set molto particolare.
Insomma dopo due anni, finalmente torniamo a vivere la musica!

Body + Mind his first Ep with the Portuguese label XXIII is nothing but a percussive journey into four different soundscapes that mark the encounter between these two elements.
The EP recreates four different soundscapes to celebrate the meeting points between body and mind.
Body + Mind: a title definitely evocative and linked to the world of club culture, what in hides behind the choice of this name?
I thought about it a lot and in the end I chose this concept that I really liked, a very philosophical concept. It is in fact about the dualism between body and mind.
The EP is called Body + Mind because I studied the EP in order to give it a concept that could make sense for the sounds I included and the musical path I took both of Bpm and sound dynamics. I identified the meeting of body and mind through music, especially in the percussive music recurring in the album. Music with a definite rhythm and energy that can bind body and mind. So I decided to focus on this discourse, and then to focus a lot on the "+." The symbol "+" in fact represents precisely the meeting of body and mind.
The Ep was curated by the Portuguese label XXIII. Where did your relationship with this reality come from?
I had been following the label for a long time and in the most spontaneous way I produced those tracks and sent them to them. I had no contact with them, and after a couple of months they replied to me telling me precisely that the project was of interest to them. I have to say that they were very patient, we closed the project both very satisfied with the final work.
The artwork of the Ep clearly recalls the whole concept of the Ep. Can you tell us more about the path and the story behind the artwork?
With the help of the label we commissioned the artwork from Portuguese artist Miquel Viga. The label introduced him to me and showed me some work he had done. He I must say really espouses this conceptual, abstract and philosophical idea of visual art. The one thing I wanted to be visually impactful was really the "+" symbol. It was supposed to be the signature element of the artwork.
Speaking instead of mastering, who took care of this part of the Ep?
The mastering was handled by Sam Interface, a super recognized London producer who is a very good sound engeneer. He has been working with the label for a long time and he does all the mastering part in order to give consistency to the label's sound.
I am very happy to have been able to collaborate with him.
Your musical journey started as a DJ to transform and elevate to a music producer. What prompted you to make this artistic choice?
At a certain point you realize that it is no longer enough to just play music but you want to go deeper. I felt the need to go further. To start a path that could make me grow even more as an artist. I must say that it was all very natural. Pandemic played a major role in this artistic and especially personal growth of mine. On the one hand it did not give me permission to grow from a DJing point of view, on the other hand paradoxically it allowed me to build a lot of contacts on a European level. Stopping gave us the opportunity to get in touch with people doing the same thing as us in another country, with another culture, other ideas. I must say in spite of everything very inspiring.
Tell us more about the meaning of the names of the individual tracks on the Ep?
The way: It was born in 2019, I was playing with a sample of this English drum'nbass track, jungle in which these two words were repeated in a loop. I wanted to try to use it within a different rhythmic pattern and from there the first track of the Ep came out. It's my favorite track of the Ep, the one I'm most attached to because precisely it was the first one I closed.
Sbtrack: It was supposed to be called Supermassive Track because the plugin that I used most often on that track is a Supermassive by Valahlla which is a plug in that gives you the ability to put audio effects in the tracks. I abused this plug in in almost every track and that's why I decided to dedicate a track to that name, which later turned into SupermassiveBlack Track, which eventually became SBtrack.
Lack of time: third track of the Ep. It is the track that I did last and that took me the most time of all in terms of construction. That is why I decided to call it that.
Black Lotus: during the pandemic together with a friend we set out to review all the things we used to do as kids. One of them was the card game "Magick." Within the game was a card called Black Lotus which is a very important and super rare card that allows you to unlock the game and bring the game home. This track was kind of that, it allowed me to "unlock" myself, continuing to produce other tracks that then allowed me to finish the Ep.
We can say that your "sound" is very Uk oriented. Definitely a sound not related to our musical culture. How did you approach this sound world?
The moment when I approached electronic music dates back to a period in my life where I lived in Brighton. I spent 4 months there which formed me musically as this music is part of their culture. From there I slowly got into many things. It was the building block that allowed me to approach other musical worlds. I don't feel I'm bound to one genre of music. I like to have a broad, 360-degree view of electronic music. I think it's very important to have a sensibility and coherence toward music that can allow you to engage multiple musical genres together in an intelligent way.
Every sound has its own space, what is the space where you would hear Body + Mind?
It's definitely a very club-oriented record as a sound. I hear it in clubs, in radio shows. That's what's actually then happening. You know, the concept behind club music is that it has a particular energy that drives you to dance, that stirs up emotions. I think Body + Mind has that kind of energy.
What should we expect in the coming months? Future Projects?
It's time to release some new projects. I am working on a six-track Ep with Drone from 126 with electro/breakbeat sounds. I will be featured as a DJ at various festivals this summer. Two festivals I really admire. Lots of dates in Rome: Bar India, Palazzo Brancaccio, Havana Club x Noisey party. There will be a showcase of my collective Louder Visions at Hotel Butterfly and other dates in Milan. Speaking of Milan I am continuing my season with Radio Raheem which I will end with a very special set.
Shortly, after two years, we are finally getting back to live music!
